Cochise Arizona Oasis: On our second visit, we begin improving the land
On the weekend of October, 6, 2023, CougarDAO LLC member Dominic Carrillo visited the property and began making improvements to the parcel.
It’s been a little while since our last update. Stay tuned because we have several things that have occurred and will probably have a couple more updates before the end of the year.
Sonoran Desert Journey
In the quest to realize the CougarDAO LLC vision, our second visit to the Cochise parcel was a venture marked by meticulous planning and adventurous spirit. The first attempt, though fruitful in gathering initial impressions, lacked direct access to the land. This time, we were fully equipped and ready to immerse ourselves in the raw beauty of the area.
Preparation and Arrival:
With a modest budget ($5,000 paid through our real-world bank account) but grand ambitions, we rented an off-road vehicle through Turo, crucial for navigating the challenging terrain. Our toolkit included landscaping essentials like grading rakes, an axe, and a machete - tools to tame the wild foliage. Comforts like sleeping bags, a fire pit, and chairs were also procured, ensuring a blend of work and relaxation.
Our journey was not without its challenges. Heavy freeway traffic delayed our arrival, plunging us into the darkness of the night upon reaching the parcel. Given the secluded nature of the area and the presence of neighboring trail cams, we opted for a cautious approach, spending our first night at a nearby rest stop.
The Dawn of a New Day
Awakening at dawn, we were greeted by a mesmerizing sunrise over the mountains. The cooler climate, a pleasant contrast to Tucson’s warmth, added to the freshness of the morning. Upon reaching our parcel, we met our neighbor, an ex-military and off-grid living enthusiast. His friendly demeanor and offer of assistance were a heartwarming introduction to the local community.
The Labor of Passion:
Equipped with robust landscaping gear and fueled by our Mexican heritage (
and his childhood bestfriend), we embarked on our task with vigor. The land, enshrouded in buffelgrass and dusty terrain, demanded hard work. Our vision was to create a welcoming driveway, encircling a majestic mesquite tree - a beacon in the wilderness.Wearing our straw Tecovas cowboy hats for protection and style, we spent hours axing weeds and grading the land. Our neighbor, observing our dedication, graciously assisted with his tractor, significantly accelerating our progress.
Culminating Efforts and Community Bonds
After a fruitful day of labor, we ventured into the nearby town. Here, we acquired solar lights to delineate the driveway, adding a touch of civilization to our rustic setup. The town, reminiscent of an old Western movie, welcomed us with open arms, showcasing the warmth and camaraderie of the local community.
Evening Revelations and Future Plans:
Our evening was spent under the stars, roasting marshmallows and indulging in stargazing - a truly magical experience. Our neighbor's homemade whiskey and the distant sound of cows added to the ambiance of this unforgettable night.
Key Achievements:
Constructed a functional and aesthetic driveway.
Installed solar lights for ease of access.
Established a central common area, anticipating the addition of a water tank and other amenities.
Noteworthy Observations:
Remarkable 5G cell signal throughout.
Ideal weather conditions, perfect for both day and night activities.
Friendly and supportive local community.
Proximity to mountainous terrain, ideal for outdoor activities like biking and hiking.
Close to fascinating towns like Tombstone and Bisbee, and attractions like 'The Thing.'
Potential for astronomical observations and stargazing.
Considerations for shooting activities, ensuring harmony with the neighbors.
